Sport Fishing in the Big Island of Hawaii

In the sport fishing world, the Big Island in Hawaii is on top of the list as the prime destination for sport fishing. It is filled with a wide variety of marine life and it is also filled with big game fishes which many dedicated fishermen will really want to catch.

The Big Island of Hawaii offers the best saltwater or deep sea fishing in the world. With Blue Marlins that can weigh hundreds of pounds, you can be sure that fishing here will indeed provide you with adventure and excitement. Just imagine the thrill of a hundred pound Blue Marlin in your hook and fighting it while sitting in the fighting chair? After a few minutes that seems hours of fighting, you finally land it in the boat. Indeed, nothing can compare to that kind of fishing adventure.

Just the simple thought of reeling in a hundred pound Blue Marlin on the boat is exhilarating and after doing it for the first time you will definitely get hooked and will want to do it again.

In the Big Island, you will see that there is quite a lot of fishing charter operators that you can hire to go out to sea and let you fish in some of the major fishing grounds of the state.

The great thing about sport fishing charters in the Big Island is that it is relatively cheaper than the other charters around the state. The irony in this fact is that the Big Island offers the best fishing grounds but only charges low prices for the charters.

So, be sure that you ask other anglers on which charter will be able to give you the best deals. They will be able to point you to the charter that has a great crew and one that will guarantee you big catches all throughout the day.

There are several charter options that you can choose from. The first is that you will be able to get a private charter where you will book the whole boat for your exclusive use as well as for your group, or you can choose the share boat option where you will take turns on the fighting chair with fellow anglers from different parts of the world. Usually, the share boat option will let you share the boat with a maximum of 6 anglers.

You can also choose how many hours the trip should last. It can be for four hours but if you are a serious angler and really want to get the biggest catch, then you might want to go for the 6 or 8 hour trip.

Most charter trips in the Big Island of Hawaii will leave early in the morning or in the afternoon. It is your choice on when you want to go fishing.

Also, you have the choice in the tag and release option. Try to discuss this with the captain at the beginning of your trip before reaching the major fishing grounds and he or she will gladly provide you with the details.

The equipments, ice and licenses will be provided by the boat. So, you don’t have to worry about these things.

Another tip is that you should always bring your sun block lotion. The sun can get pretty hot in Hawaii and unless you want to end up getting severely sun burnt, you will want to bring a sun block lotion with you as you will be spending a lot of time in the open sun sitting on the fighting chair.

You will also want to bring your own food and drinks as the crew will not prepare your meals. It is true that most of the crew are great fishermen who knows where to catch the big fish, but they are not waiters or your servants that will cook for you.

Remember these tips and you can be sure that you will have a great time fishing in the Big Island of Hawaii.
